Foo Fighters Concert in Houston - 1/22/08

So. Last nite I went to one of the best concerts in my life! Which is impressive, cuz I’ve seen well over 200 LIVE performances in my day.

The Foo Fighters are one of my favorite bands, always has been. I’ve listened to them for years now, and I know pretty much every song… but I have never seen them live. But they were on my list…

When the Foo Fighters concert in Houston was announced a few months back, I knew that I just had to see them, but the situation was starting to look like I wasn’t going to be able to. I started to make my peace with the fact that I was going to miss the concert, and have to wait another two years before they came back to Houston.

Then my girl (who is awesome) surprised me with tickets. I was stoked! Keeper?

The Foo Fighters were playing in Toyota Center, and it was PACKED!! Must’ve been at least 15,000+ people there. The t-shirt lines, the beer lines, every line was at least 12 people deep.

They opened up with some new stuff from Echo’s, Silence, Patience, Grace, then went quickly into my personal favorite album Nothing Left to Lose. They would play 3 or 4 songs in a row, with literally no break!

Dave Grohl would run up and down the stage at full speed, playing the guitar, swinging his hair around, it was crazy! I’ve never seen a frontman play so hard. It was quite impressive, to say the least.

For two hours, they played everything! Every song I could think of! They played a nice long acoustic set, which sounded alot like their Skin & Bones album, from a stage that came down from the ceiling. At one point, Dave Grohl was standing on top of a piano, pointing his guitar to the sky, playing it. Very cool moment!

I used to work concert security at a different Houston venue, so I’ve seen alot of shows. Random bands. Most were a complete waste of time, but I was getting paid. BUT this show, was filled with more energy than any show I’ve ever seen! I was already a big fan, but Dave Grohl just cemented that for me.

Oh, and Dave Grohl wants to squeeze your fuckin’ faces!

I watched an interview with one of the band members of the Foo Fighters and Metallica about Napster several years ago. I had been a big fan of metallica for years. Their philosophies differ quite a bit. Lars had a huge problem with folks sharing good music with friends. One of the members of the Foo Fighters said ” Hell, I’m rich. I’m ok with a lot of people hearing our music for free”
Please do not quote my words, it was many years ago but greatness cannot be subdued or buried under the ashes. I love their music and will listen to them for the rest of my life.

I freaking LOVE the Foo Fighters! I saw them a few years ago in Dallas, and Dave Grohl performed in the same manner. He really knows how to put on a show!

Rock on!

Jeff,

Great review of a great band. I saw the Foos the last time they came rolling through Houston. Glad to hear that they’re still hard rawk’n.

I still their their best stuff is their first couple of albums, but they’re all excellent. Grohl is one talented individual.
