I got an email from one of my friends mothers the other day. She had just signed up for a MySpace account, and wanted to know how to add all of the cool stuff, like videos and pictures, to her profile.
I don’t know who is just now signing up for a MySpace account, but if you have… here is some good general knowledge that will come in handy for setting up your MySpace profile.
Setting Up Your MySpace Profile
It’s actually really easy to add stuff like that to your MySpace page. First, if you would like to add a theme to your page, try googling MySpace Themes/Layouts. You will see a bunch of sites that will let you browse different layouts. Some people will like to have a general theme, such as Yankee’s or Corvette. Other’s would probably just prefer a more generalized design.
Once you find a theme you like, that site will give you some HTML code. Simply, Copy & Paste that code into your Profile’s “About Me” section, under the “Edit Profile” option. This should add your selected theme to your page.
*Note - Please delete the bottom bit of code that adds a banner to the top left of your page. Most MySpace theme’s have this self-promotion attached to it, and I personally find it extremely tacky!
Embedding Video On Your MySpace Profile
If you would like to add a YouTube video, that’s also pretty easy. Located on the YouTube page, you should see a section that says “Embed”. Just simply take that code, and copy & paste it into your MySpace Profile, when you are under EDIT mode. This you can pretty much put anywhere you want in your profile.
Adding Music to Your MySpace Profile
The music can be a little more difficult. You can do one of two things:
1) Easy Way - Find a musical artist’s myspace page. They will have songs listed on that page, usually four songs. Under each song title, is an option to “add that song to your profile”. Click, and your done. Simple & Self-Explanatory.
2) Hard Way - Visit Project Playlist and create an account. Here you will be able to search for different songs you like. Once you find a song you want, you add it to your “playlist.” It will allow you to add 75 songs.
Once you have added a song or two (..or 75), it will give you some web/HTML code, which you can copy & paste into your profile, when you are under EDIT mode. The playlist will show up automatically on your MySpace profile, and you will never have to update it again. If you want to change or add songs, you just do it on the Project Playlist website. Updating your profile on that site, will also, automatically update it on your myspace page. Very handy!
Adding Pictures to Your MySpace Profile
If you would like to add any photo’s to your page, like I did, then you can create a PhotoBucket Account. You will be able to upload any photo’s you want. It will store those photo’s on their servers, and then give you some web/HTML code. You take that code and copy & paste that into your MySpace profile, when you are under EDIT mode. It should then immediately show up on your MySpace Profile.
One thing to be aware of with your Photobucket account, is that there is a maximum amount of bandwidth that they give you. If you exceed this by adding to many photos, then ALL of you photos will stop working. They give you a good amount, but it’s still wise to keep an eye on your bandwidth…
Thats it. Thats the simple, general way to set up your MySpace profile. Any Questions?
