So, it’s about midnight right now. I’ve slept a collective 5 hours out of the last 72, and I’m still slightly hungover from the weekend, yet somehow I’m still awake. All I’m doing right now is jumping from one social media site to another.

And I can’t even begin to tell you why.

One of my stories on Digg is on the verge of making the FP, so I keep hitting F5 to see if I’ve gotten anymore diggs. Of course, it’s only been about four minutes since I refreshed the page, so why am I not surprised that nobody has dugg it.

I sent a message to someone on Stumble, and I’m waiting for a reply. Still haven’t gotten one yet, but I know it’s coming. I don’t like to go to bed wondering, so after I refresh my digg submissions page, I go back and check my inbox to see if the reply has arrived.

I’m also hopping over to Mixx, just to see if my karma has climbed at all or they updated my profile page with an ‘ribbon’ icon. Nope.

I realize that I have a song by Tenacious D stuck in my head, so I go over to YouTube to see if I can find it, because I want to post it on a bulletin on MySpace. But of course, all I find are crappy LIVE performances recorded with a cellphone and a bunch of really bad covers.

So, I go back to Digg and hit f5… climbed one digg.

Back to Stumble. No reply.

Back to Digg. Refresh the page…. nothing.

So, as I sit here and the bags under my eyes grow larger, I realize that once you get too deep into social media, it becomes your crack. Your new addiction. You continually think about it. You repetitively check it. You can’t stop.

My body is screaming at me to go to sleep, but my brain keeps saying just hit f5 one more time. Just one more time…
